On Wednesday, October 26th, Toscana Resort Castelfalfi unveiled its new biomass power plant with zero environmental impact, fruit of a partnership with Renovo Bioenergy. A new sustainable development model for the Resort which, once again, confirms its reputation as a cutting edge market player.
From today on, Castelfalfi will be mostly run on renewable – and strictly zero mileage – energy generated by the new plant, which will fuel the remote heating and climate control network, making the property a good example of how to develop high quality tourism facilities capable of optimising the territory’s natural resources, vocation and economy.
The plant was installed in collaboration with Renovo Bioenergy and will provide all the thermal energy necessary for the seasonal climate control requirements of the farm’s buildings, making Castelfalfi almost a self-sufficient village. The plant will be fuelled with wood chips, that is, waste wood and residuals from logging, generated from the maintenance of the forest areas of the farm, which span a total of 1,100 hectares.
The first to feel the benefits will be the territory: it is enough to think that an abandoned, non-productive wood can be dangerous, and so in this way the power plant is helping to reduce the hydrogeological risk!
A project that has been cultivated for quite some time – it has been talked about since 2009 – and is an important step in the wider plan to render Toscana Resort Castelfalfi energy efficient and redevelop the territory, designed by German multinational TUI. In this way, the farm is part of a virtuous circle with its ideal centre in the municipality of Montaione, which has always come top of the stakes in Europe for having obtained all the environmental and energy certifications.
Because safeguarding the territory is all about providing incentives for using clean, renewable energy sources: respect for the environment and the correct management of its resources are a key requisite for making Castelfalfi a Mecca for the tourists of today, but also for those of tomorrow.
Among other things, the green future of Toscana Resort Castelfalfi envisages a water procurement plan and the recent creation of a water purification plant that benefits all the structures which combine to form the Resort. The next investment will concern the supply of energy, installing a new photovoltaic park near the property complex known as La Collina.
The time is right to say it: stay green!
